Honduras Mission Project
Honduras Mission Trip - ¡Muchas Gracias!
A team of parishioners from St. Michael enjoyed an amazing week spending time at the mission project in Santa Rosa de Copàn, Honduras. Thank you for your prayers of support as they traveled and lived in solidarity with the nuns, girls and elderly at each home. The team met the leadership at the Hogar de Niñas, Sor Delmy and Sor Matilde at the Hogar de Ancianos and reviewed current and future projects throughout the week. Funds collected by both parishes were delivered to assist with high school education, tuition, medical/dental care, operations as well as to improve the laundry facility. We are so grateful for the many hands that helped with providing donations for this trip including: fleece blankets made by the parish school children on Go Forth to Serve Day, newborn supply bags prepared by St. Michael’s first annual Parish Serve Day, hygiene/gift bags put together by American Heritage Girls, and our Companions in Faith at OLU School collected and donated toiletry items. Additionally, different parishioners donated medicine, backpacks, beanie babies, and hand-made St. Michael the Archangel bracelets.
Some of the highlights for the week included: The Feast of St. Anthony of Padua mass and celebration, a gathering with the girls that have graduated to hear current news, a celebrations to honor the elderly and jovenes (the high school aged girls that help take care of the elderly), serving breakfast at shelters near the hospital and just being present with the residents - the girls, elderly and nuns. The team returned with full hearts and a sincere gratitude for the opportunity to live in solidarity this week with the nuns, girls and elderly in each of the homes we seek to serve. We are grateful for the faith we share that binds us together and for the many gifts of inspiration from the Holy Spirit we felt throughout the week. It is certainly no coincidence that our relationship and project has grown over the past 14 years. We have helped to inspire HOPE for the future for the girls in the Hogar de Niñas by supporting education, health and wellness; additionally, we have helped to improve the dignity and quality of life in the care of the elderly. While we have offered charitable support to improve each home in Honduras - we have received in immeasurable abundance gifts that money cannot buy - joy, peace, humility, generosity of spirit, and much love. Our next trip is January 12-19, 2019 - Please consider going - your life will forever be changed!
